Northwest Coalition Against Trafficking: Jan 14-16, 2011 in Portland
By the time you read this, another child will be kidnapped, another person will be abducted, and another lifelong search for families will begin; hanging onto hope that someday their loved one will come home. Many of these victims will be recovered, but the reality of being rescued gets less as time goes on, but does hope really fade away? In the 21st Century Slavery Still Exists and today we know this term as “Modern Day Slavery; Human Trafficking.” Hundreds of Thousands, may be even millions, Trafficked Victims are looking to become Survivors and we as Soroptimist have the power to continue being a part of something very powerful – being the Best for Women!
This past January Soroptimists from all over the Northwestern Region and beyond joined us in Portland, Oregon for the Northwest Conference Against Trafficking. After two years of successful Human Trafficking Forums sponsored by SI Southwest Washington, SI Vancouver, and SI Camas-Washougal, we are proud to announce that your Soroptimist Northwestern Region will continue to lead the Northwest Coalition Against Trafficking! The NWCAT is made up of many law enforcement agencies, government offices, media, non-profit organizations, United States Departments including the National Human Trafficking Resource Center and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and most importantly, the coalition is represented by many Soroptimist clubs throughout the Region and beyond!
Please Save the Date: January 14-16, 2011. This is the date of next year’s conference. The conference will be held at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon (U.S.A.). Conference speakers and highlights will be announced on March 8th (International Women’s Day).
Thank you and together we will continue to “Look Beneath the Surface” and be the Best for Women!
