Dear Soroptimist Friends, We hope to continue with our Friendship Link. Hope you had a Merry Christmas among your family and friends.
We finish this year with 22 Members and most of us are not young because the younger married women do not have time enough to work as volunteers. The oldest soroptimist of Brazil and South America belongs to our club; she is for 52 years soroptimist and our club has 57 years of activity.
We help a House of old women that are very poor and three Day Nursery for poor, abandoned and orphans children. This year, we dedicated a week for alerting women and girls that suffer domestic violence. It is an important theme. At least, we have a law to protect women in this situattion, the Maria da Penha law. The most important is to make known and aplied.
Personally, I give concerts (piano) to help people that needs aid. In July 2010, we will celebrate our 57th Birthday, the oldest club in Brazil. As my soroptimist Friend of Melbourne says:
"We cannot direct the wind....but we can adjust the sails."
I made the translation to use here among my Friends. It is wise and I love her very much.
My dear friends, best wishes for you all, your family and our dear friends of SI Banning, SI Running Springs, SI Curaçao and SI Ashland. Very Happy New Year!!! With my best regards, Eny da Rocha SI São Paulo Brazil Region
