11th Annual EMPTY BOWLS 2010
We raised over $4,000 to feed the hungry:
from sales of pottery, garden stones, & soup coupons

Mark your calendars for next year--First Friday Art Walk in April.

You don't want to miss this wonderful opportunity.

THANK YOU to all of our donors & participants for helping to feed the hungry of our community!

Buy an empty bowl -- fight hunger at Soroptimist of Ashland's Empty Bowls Pottery Sale.

Once more, Clayfolk Potters and other local Ashland potters, SOU and Ashland students have donated over 300 ceramic items for sale, the empty bowl a reminder of hunger in our community. Local restaurants have donated bowls of soup, available to be purchased as coupons for $5, redeemable at the restaurant. The proceeds go to Ashland’s local food agencies: ACCESS Food Share, Ashland Emergency Food Bank, Uncle Food’s Diner, and Food for People.

Soroptimist International of Ashland is sponsoring its 11th Annual Empty Bowls, having raised $33,000 thus far to fight hunger in our community. Under the  leadership of Sue Kurth, Soroptimist organizer, and the partnership of Clayfolk Potters and  SOU Art Department, Empty Bowls raises money for and awareness of hunger in our midst.

Come, enjoy light music and hors d'oeurves, see bowls being thrown on the potter’s wheel, view the wide range of ceramics--and plan to purchase some of the lovely pottery pieces and soup coupons, helping in the fight against hunger.

A map to the Thorndike Gallery, next to the Schneider Museum on the SOU Campus, is shown below.

A link to the 2009 Empty bowls (to the right) includes pictures of the beautiful array of ceramics in last year's Empty Bowls Event.

Pictured above is long-time potter, Hannah Brehmer, creating bowls for the Ashland Empty Bowls project. Hannah has been working in clay since she majored in Fine Arts at Ohio State University in the ‘60’s. Now she is  happy to be able to help a wonderful local charity by doing what she loves to do. She will be making about 30 bowls for the April sale and finishing them with what she calls “luscious blue and green glazes”. Most will sell for the great price of $12. To see more of Hannah’s work, go to www.hannahbrehmerpottery.org.
