Service Projects
One of our strengths as a club is our flexibility to choose as a group, selected charities as the need arises. For example we are forgoing our latte’s for a couple of months; figuratively, of course, collecting all fines (due to our queen-o-fines-extraordinaire, Julie Brimble it adds up) and designating those funds to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, last year’s donations went to project Sierra Leone.

In summary, we accomplish much as a whole; girls’ gift luncheon, garden tour, community baby shower and yard sales but in the end, all of us, individually bring our heart and love to our work. We all work hard and share the inspiration and joy in contributing to the needs of women.

Our signature project is our Girls’ Gift Program Luncheon. We invite a group of at risk girls from the middle schools to join us in the spring and return in the fall for an educational program and to hear guest speakers talk about their career choices and how they achieved successes in their lives.

Our garden tour held in June is also one our top projects. We showcase 5 or so gardens on the tour including Roxy Ann Winery which adds to the festivities.

We participate in the Jacksonville City Wide yard sale. With our sign and flyers we are providing some exposure as well as enjoying the community.

The Community Baby Shower is held each year in March as our Saturday of Service project. We share this project with SI Medford and SI Sunrise. Our abundant collected donations go to Community Health Center, La Clinica’s Healthy Start Program and the Department of Human Services, Maslow Project and Community Works Dunn House.

Our member, Kathy Hollenbach chairing on the Kid Spree committee held each August. Kid Spree is a non-profit, community project providing school clothes to low income children.

We adopt a family in need during the holiday season; this year, thanks to our member Judy Brown at Head Start, we helped a single mother with two young children obtain hot water for her small trailer.

Our service project contributions go to SMART, School District 6; Art and Science Camp and the Crater Choir, the Crater Foundation and the Arts Council of Southern Oregon.

The Wine Walk for Women's Health is a joint project of Soroptimist of the Rogue Valley, held the third Sunday in September to raise money to provide health care services for uninsured and underinsured women in Jackson and Josephine counties. In three years, this very popular event, has resulted in over $33,000 being distributed to aid local women.

The proceeds are distributed to organizations such as Community Health Center for its “Every Woman Can Have a Medical Home” program, La Clinica to purchase diagnostic equipment for its women’s clinic and to Oregon Advanced Imaging for a financial assistance program for MRIs for low-income women.

Improving the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
